There may be situations in which a member of the University community is observed engaging in misconduct while doing research that nevertheless is not considered "research misconduct." That is, the misconduct may not have a direct bearing on the validity of the research. Examples include sexual harassment, illegal discrimination, inappropriate behavior toward a student or mentee, financial impropriety, etc. These activities fall outside the scope of research misconduct and hence are not routinely handled by the MPO or Academic Integrity Committee. Other mechanisms exist within the University to deal with these behaviors, most commonly beginning by reporting the inappropriate activity to a supervisor.
