Review of Research that Involves the Care and Use of Animals

University policy and federal law require a review of all projects that propose to use vertebrate animals for the humane treatment and judicious use of those animals. IACUC generally does not review applications for scientific-instruction merit, as that decision is made by departmental review, or external granting agencies.

At Eastern Michigan University, adherence to this policy and federal law is ensured by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) through review of the Application to Use Vertebrate Animals. The Application to Use Vertebrate Animals can be obtained from the Office of Research Development website.
