In addition to the federal law and regulations, the Eastern Michigan University Animal Care Policy states that the University will comply with all applicable provisions of the Animal Welfare Act and other federal and state statutes and regulations relating to animals to ensure the humane use of animals in research and education" (6.2.7, 1989). This policy provides for establishing and operating the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and charges it with the responsibility for implementing the policy.
