Introduction: Why should you care that the Human Subjects Review Committee looks over your research plan?

  • If you are reading this, you most likely are a project investigator for research that involves human subjects. Professional ethics and codes, as well as federal regulations and EMU policy and procedures require review of your research plan prior to collection of data. This review, and compliance with the review committee’s findings, ensures that liability to you will be minimized.

  • Additionally, at EMU, the University Human Subjects Review Committee attempts to provide advice and suggestions that will strengthen research proposals. Review is a collegial process intended to protect researchers and the human subjects with whom they work.
